womxn's march 2.0

January 7, 2018

Following the first year of Trump's presidency and the rise of the #MeToo movement, I can see how 2018 might be the Year of Women. I certainly hope so. The stories of women courageously coming forward this past year, despite fear of retribution and threats - they inspire me. There's a feeling I get when I read about these and it's a strange and overwhelming mix of admiration, empathy, fear, grief, and hope.

Seeing other women come forward gives me hope that one day we'll live in a world where women no longer have to bury our pain but we can openly seek justice. Seeing powerful men fall from grace gave me a sliver of hope that we might finally live in a place that prioritizes the well-being of women over letting predators keep their jobs. But some of them openly supported women or saw themselves as feminists; many of them were surprising - all of which supports one frightening conclusion: we are never safe.

On my wishlist this year is that women will continue to support women - that we'll listen to one another. I hope we continue to empower and be compassionate towards each other - this stuff is hard enough as it is. It is the least that we can do.

If you are able to attend, consider showing up to a Womxn's March in your local area.

(I created this graphic for the agency I work for - we wanted to promote our local Womxn's March here in Seattle. I do not take credit for the design of the symbol - it has been widely used and I have not been able to identify the original source. You might see this design floating around on posters across the city for the next few weeks!)

2018 - chasing a creative life

January 1, 2018

I like to think that there's a moment once the clock strikes midnight and we let go of all our struggles and heartaches of the past year, and start looking forward. What are your unshakeable dreams? What kind of person do you want to be? What do you love?

I have never for one second, ever regretted deciding to chase a creative life. Working as a emerging artist is a struggle - I spend a lot of late nights drawing and churning out ideas when most people are out with their friends. I pore over expense spreadsheets for my print sales on my lunch breaks and sometimes I'm squeezing minutes out of my day to meet my own deadlines.

But it's amazing. And fun and challenging and surprising. It feeds the soul. I hope to any other creatives out there who are just starting out - I am struggling out here with you and sending encouraging thoughts! Happy 2018.

Sunday Breakfast

December 13, 2017

I had the wonderful opportunity of collaborating with Paige, who runs her own food blog sEATtle on the run and is one of the creators of Breakfast Club Seattle, a monthly event where foodies on instagram come together and meet each other in person at a participating venue.

For their 6th event at the end of the year, Paige asked me to design these keepsake menus for the event! The final menu illustration featured foods from all of the previous Breakfast Club events to celebrate the fun we've had at all of the different venues this year.

It was wonderful attending such a joyful event and hearing responses to the menu designs! I look forward to more collaborations and for those of you in Seattle, definitely check out the Breakfast Club for a fun way to make new friends!
